12.29.09 Every Tuesday night for the last month, 39 hotel hosted an amazing mishmash of musical genres collide creating an amazing landscape of sound. Last week’s Kaleidoscope was no different. With a room full of talented musicians and loads of friends surrounding me I was ready to have my brain explode.

The opening act was a talented songstress named Tolua. Absolutely incredible. I’m surprised I’ve never heard of her before this. I had a bit of camera technical difficulty during her set and was pretty bummed. But tried to capture a few anyhow, I’m confident I’ll hear her again somewhere. She’s definitely one to keep an eye out for.

Shortly after her set I got a nice surprise. A dude got on stage and started tearing up blues riffs like I haven’t seen in a while. I was torn from my post from where I was shooting and headed closer. He saw me with the camera and yelled “Whoa! RAUL!” And to the audience “Yeah!” And pointed to me, “This is Raul he used to rage at the old punk shows I used to play!” Mr. Braxton Olita was in the house. The man has been around the block and back. He bounced around the U.S. playing with Ashley Simpson and became fun for the tabloid leeches around the nation when he started dating her.

Braxton was back for a short stint in the islands playing some new tunes he’s never put out before. Keep an eye on this guy. He’s definitely going to go places.
